Arctic Gull Adventure in
October 8-11, 2019
Every October, Ross’s Gulls migrate along the northernmost shores of the United States, outside the town of Utquiagvik (formally Barrow). Some years there seem to not be many, and other years there are upwards of 1,000 birds moving past the point along the beach. This trip will focus on finding Ross’s Gulls, as well as taking advantage of any cultural activities and mammal watching opportunities that may arise.
Although Ross’s Gull is the main target, other birds can be seen each day. Multiple eider species, including Common, King, and Spectacled have been reported, as well as Long-tailed Ducks and other waterfowl. Seabirds such as Short-tailed Shearwaters can be seen offshore while scoping for gulls.
