Taiwan: The Heart of Asia
April 12 - 24, 2020
April 11 - 23, 2021
Join us as we offer our first tour to the incredible island of Taiwan! We’ll explore many of the wonderful parks throughout the island covering everything from Taipei all the way south to Kenting and out to the island of Lanyu. Some of our stops include Dasyueshan Forest, Taroko National Park, Budai and Augo wetlands, and much more!
As we explore this exceptional country, we’ll be looking for highlight species such as many of Taiwan’s endemic birds including Taiwan Blue-Magpie, Swinhoe’s Pheasant, Taiwan Yellow and Chestnut-bellied Tits, Taiwan Rosefinch, Taiwan Barwing, Taiwan Bamboo-Partridge, and Taiwan Shortwing. Other non-endemic highlights could include Black-faced Ibis, Mountain and Collared Scops-Owls, Little Forktail, Maroon Oriole, Golden Parrotbill, and much more.
While on the boat to Lanya, we’ll keep an eye out for seabirds and hope to see species such as Buler’s Petrel, Streaked Shearwater, Brown Booby, and Wedge-tailed Shearwater. Towards the end of the trip, we have a day dedicated to searching for the beautiful Fairy Pitta. This highly sought-after species is sure to be a highlight if we can hunt one down!
This tour is also timed to coincide with spring migration in Taiwan. Throughout the tour we will be on the lookout for birds on their journey north to their breeding grounds.
